Mrs. Kristen Flanagan
As the Owner and Artistic Director of PowerHouse Dance Company Miss Kristen is very excited about the year ahead and welcomes everyone to the studio. She brings over 20 years of dance experience and has successfully completed her BATD Associates Diploma in Acrobatics. She has also taken her BATD exams in Jazz, ballet, and Tap and was persistent in achieving Highly Commended throughout. She also has her level 1 Ontario Gymnastics Coaching certificate and her level 1 trampoline certificate as she has taught gymnastics and dance at Forest City Gymnastics Club.
Growing up Miss Kristen was a member of an award winning competitive team, participating both in Canada and the United States. To further her love for dance, she has attended workshops in New York City at Broadway Dance Centre, Triple Threat in Toronto and several others in Ontario. Her most recent being " So I know I can dance" which included professionals from the TV show " So You Think You Can Dance". She also attended classes with Lisa Collins in Kitchener, Ontario. Miss Kristen takes pride in all of her accomplishments, but more importantly the accomplishments of her dancers. Her students have won overall awards, top studio awards, special awards, Dance Odyssey's favourite junior dancer, Judges choice awards, and numerous scholarships across Ontario and USA. Miss Kristen has won many choreography awards for her creative and artistic numbers that she choreographs each year. She keeps her students interested in learning new moves, to be dedicated as a team member, to respect others and always to have fun while nurturing their love of dance. It is very rewarding to see how the dancers have improved over the years.
Miss Kristen has taken courses in Early Childhood Education and has graduated the Fitness & Health program at Fanshawe College. Kristen is also First Aid and CPR certified.
Mrs. Brooke Dougherty
Miss Brooke brings a wealth of knowledge to PowerHouse Dance Company having experience dancing and performing since the age of 3. She is highly trained in jazz, tap, acro, lyrical, ballet, and pointe, and has participated in several disciplines of BATD examinations receiving honours status. She has competed regionally, nationally as well as internationally leading her to win first overall at the Canadian championships in 2003.
That same year, she traveled to Reisa Germany representing her country as a member of the Canadian Showdance Team as well as the Canadian Tap Team. While competing at worlds she placed 6th in her showdance duet for the junior division, as well receiving the bronze medal for the showdance formation team, and the world championship title for the Jr. Tap small group division for 2003.
Miss Brooke has performed in several charity events over the years such as London's Children's Festival, NBA Detroit Shocks game, A Channel News, as well as the Canada games in 2000 to name a few. As a soloist she has won many special awards acknowledging her unique style and performance qualities, as well as winning many overall titles throughout the years.
In addition to her training Miss Brooke has also been acknowledged for her outstanding teaching qualities and innovative choreography. Many of her students have gone on to win several special awards, overalls, cash scholarship awards and titles such as "Intermediate Outstanding Dancer", "Most Potential", and "Mini/Jr Superstar Award", to name a few. Miss Brooke has received several awards acknowledging her choreography, her most recent being Judges Choice award, American Dance Awards young choreographer of the year, and Rhythym Mini/Jr Choreography Award.
Miss Brooke is also a certified jazz teacher under B.A.T.D as of 2006 and plans to continue taking workshops and master classes to further her knowledge as a dancer. She is currently attending the University of Western Ontario to obtain her BScN in Nursing over a four year period. Miss Brooke is excited to be a member of PowerHouse Dance Company faculty and loves to share her passion for dance with all of her students.
